Satinder Kaur Ramdev Memorial Trust for the Advancement of Librarianship (SATKAL) established by Prof. Jagindar Singh Ramdev (A Sikh Intellectual, NRI of Chicago) in memory of his late wife in April 2000 organised its Annual Function of 2007 at the intellectual hub of India- the India International Centre, New Delhi on January 17 2008. The function was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri Jagmohan, Former Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Government of India, the chief guest of the function, amidst the exotic ambience of the dignitaries. Dr (Mrs) Devinder Kaur, President, SATKAL delivered the welcome address. Prof. Jagindar Singh Ramdev, Founder Patron, SATKAL TRUST came all the way from Chicago,USA and delivered his special address full of anecdotes from his life of two worlds. He told the audience that he has only two loves in his lifes, one is wife and second his profession. By establishing SATKAL TRUST he has achieved his life mission. He won the audience with his Urdu couplets which he narrated very humbly to tell the story of his wonderful life. Many Library and iInformation Science professional from different parts of India attended the function.

The SATKAL Awards for the year 2007 were conferred during the function by Hon’ble Shri Jagmohan. Dr D Jotwani, Librarian, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai was awarded with the Punjab National Librarian Award. Dr (Mrs) Shalini R Urs, Prof. & Head, Dept of Library and Information Science, University of Mysore, Mysore and Executive Director, ISIM, Mysore received the Best Women Librarian Award and the Young Librarian Award was given to Mr Prem Chand, Scientist C, INFLIBNET, Ahmedabad. Mrs Paramjeet Kharal, Sr Librarian, Mira Model Sr Sec School, Janakpuri, New Delhi received the School Librarian Award.

Mr Jagmohan in his address greatly applauded the efforts of Prof. Jagindar Singh Ramdev in establishing SATKAL to promote librarianship. He felt the need to increase the sensitivity among the people so that they can contribute to the growth in the society. He was greatly impressed by the philanthropist work being done by Prof. Jagindar Singh Ramdev. The SATKAL Annual Lecture was delivered by Mr Zakir Thomas, Asstt Commissioner (IT), Indian Law Institute, New Delhi and former Registrar, Copyrights. He spoke on the “Copyright : What LIS Professionals Needs to Know”. The session was chaired by Prof. P B Mangla, Former Head, Dept of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi. The lecture was followed by a panel discussion. PRO.Sangeeta Kaul, Network Manager, DELNET and a member of SATKAL trust was the Organising Secretary for the SATKAL Annual Function 2007.
