The Third SATKAL Annual Function was organized at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. The Organising Secretary Dr. (Mrs.) Ashu Shokeen and co-coordinators Dr. Janak Raj organized the function very successfully. President of Satkal Trust, Dr. (Mrs.) Devinder Kaur welcomed the guests and introduced to the august audience the activities of the trust during the last three years. The President read the message of the Founder on the occasion. The Hon'ble Education Minister of Haryana, Mr Bahadur Singh inaugurated the function. The Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Mr. R.S Chaudhry, IAS (Retd) appreciated the efforts of the Trust. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.S. Hooda and Registrar Dr. Hawa Singh also graced the occasion. The annual Satkal lecture was on 'Reading Culture' and was presented by Mr. N.K. Bar as Prof. Kalia could not be present due to illness. He talked about the Book Culture in India. Miss Madhu Midha, lecturer in Library Science at Politechnical Institute for Women at Jalandhar expressed her sentiments about SATKAL and paid high tributes to the founder Patron of the Trust Prof.Jagindar Singh Ramdev.Sardar Thakur Singh Basati from the USA also addressed the gathering. Several librarians from the northern India attended the function. The panel discussion on 'Library Legislation in Haryana' was held in the afternoon session. The panelists included Mr. Prem Singh Librarian, Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Prof. R.D. Mahila, Librarian, Kurukshetra University, Mr. A.R. Sethi, Dr. (Mrs.) S.P. Singh, and other distinguished librarians.The SATKAL Awards for the year 2002 were presented to the following distinguished professionals:

Woman Librarian Award : Ms. Harsha K. Parekh
Professor & University Librarian, S.N.D.T. Women's University, Bombay.
Young Librarian Award : Dr. (Mrs.) Usha M. Munshi
Librarian, Indian National Science Academy, Delhi.
Mrs. Manindar Y.P. Singh, Deputy Librarian, Panjab University, Chandigarh compered the Annual Ranghanathan Quiz on Library and Information Science. Teams from the Departments of Library and Information Science of the Universities of Punjab, Punjabi, GNDU, Jammu, Srinagar, Kurukshetra and Delhi, participated in this quiz. The participants from the Kurukshetra University won the running trophy.
