The SATKAL Trust every year organize a Quiz competition for the Library Science students. The Name of the Quiz Competitions is named after Dr S R Ranganathan , the father of Library science in India. This quiz is divided into two parts. The first part of the quiz pertains to the life and works of Dr S R Ranganathan . The second part relates to the latest trends in LIS. This quiz has been a source of inspiration and enthusiasm to be the students of library and information science of the universities of the northern region. This also enables them to meet and listen to the views of the stalwarts of the profession on a common platform. To encourage and to imbibe a spirit of competition the students are given an opportunity to excel as the quiz is held in a very congenial atmosphere. All the participating teams are presented with mementoes. A running trophy of the quiz competition is every year conferred on the winning team of the participating university.
1. First Year 2000
The Ranganathan Quiz was also organized for students of Library and Information Science where in the teams from the north-western region participated. It was compered Dr. M.P. Satija and the team from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar won the quiz running trophy.
2. Second Year 2001
Dr. Jagtar Singh, Reader, Department of Library & Information Science compeered the Annual Ranghanathan Quiz on Library and Information Science. Teams, from the Departments of Library & Information Science of the Universities of Punjab, Punjabi, GNDU, Jammu, Srinagar, Kurukshetra and Delhi, participated in this quiz. The students of Punjabi University, Patiala won the running trophy. Prof. S.P. Narang, Dean, Faculty of Education and Information Science gave away the mementoes to the participants.
3. Third Year 2002
Mrs. Manindar Y.P. Singh, Deputy Librarian, Panjab University, Chandigarh compered the Annual Ranghanathan Quiz on Library and Information Science. Teams from the Departments of Library and Information Science of the Universities of Punjab, Punjabi, GNDU, Jammu, Srinagar, Kurukshetra and Delhi, participated in this quiz. The participants from the Kurukshetra University won the running trophy.
4. Fourth Year 2003
Professor Jagindar Singh Ramdev delivered the running trophy to the winning team from Panjab University,Chandigarh. Professor H.R. Chopra compered the Annual Ranganathan Quiz on Library and Information Science. Teams from the Departments of Library and Information Science of the Universities of Punjab, Punjabi, GNDU, Jammu, Srinagar, Kurukshetra and Delhi, participated in this quiz. The students from the DLIS, Panjab University, Chandigarh won the running trophy. Ms. Meenu Sharma also compered the programme. Dr. (Mrs.) Amritpal Kaur proposed a Vote of Thanks.
