Trust, by the name of 'Satinder Kaur Ramdev Memorial Trust for Advancement of Librarianship' (acronym SATKAL), was founded with its headquarters at the Panjab University Library, Chandigarh in April 2000, by Mr. Jagindar Singh Ramdev, the first Deputy Librarian of the Panjab University, in the name of his late wife, Mrs. Satinder Kaur Ramdev. While the overall objective of the trust is 'Advancement of Librarianship'; its activities comprise of the following:-
Promote research and librarianship by giving scholarships/fellowships/stipends to deserving students and in-service library professionals;
Launch/sponsor/publish/distribute library related literature;
Institute Awards.e.g. a)National Librarian Award b)Punjab Librarian Award, c)Young Librarian Award, and d) Woman Librarian Award;
Organise Library competitions, including Ranganathan Quiz;
Organise Annual lectures, library related seminars, training programmes and workshops;
Provide financial assistance to needy retired librarians/their dependants;
Undertake, promote and sponsor any and all such activities, which sustain and develop librarianship.
